Daria Antsybor is a Ukrainian folklorist, anthropologist, and PhD in philology. She works in the field of cultural heritage preservation and studies both historical and contemporary subcultures. Author of the book “Dreads, Battles and Styles. Two Centuries of Subcultures in Ukraine”, she also runs the Telegram channel “Mushrooms, Coffins, and Dissertations” and the podcast “Porobleno”.
🎤 Her book traces Ukrainian subcultures from 19th-century dandies to rap battles. 🕺 As a student she practiced breakdance and was part of a hip-hop crew. 📚 She popularizes anthropology in plain language through her blog and podcast. 🔍 Debunks myths, such as skinheads being only violent – many embraced reggae and ska. 🤣 Jokes that “subcultures are folklore too, just with dreadlocks.”
