Jorge Amado – 20th-century Brazilian novelist, author of “Gabriela, Clove and Cinnamon” and “Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands”. His novels, full of humour, sensuality, and social critique, made him Brazil’s most widely read writer. A member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, he was also a communist deputy, and his works have been translated into over 50 languages.
