Zinaida Tulub – 20th-century Ukrainian writer, author of the historical novel “Lyudolovy” (Slave Hunters) and “In the Endless Steppe beyond the Urals.” Known for her deep historical research and focus on human fate, she endured Stalinist repression and exile, yet left a remarkable literary legacy.

📖 Her novel “Lyudolovy” (1934) is an epic about 17th-century Ukraine and the Cossacks. 🚫 Soon after publication, it was banned by Soviet censorship. 🌍 Arrested in 1937, she spent over 15 years in exile in Kazakhstan. 🖋 Worked as a teacher in exile, continued writing though many manuscripts were lost. 📚 Later published memoirs “In the Endless Steppe beyond the Urals.” 😮 Odd fact: distantly related to Ukrainian classic Mykhailo Starytskyi. 😂 Funny: joked that even wild steppe mice in exile seemed like her “roommates in the dormitory.”
